Have a question about orthodontic treatment? We have the answers.
What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry that focuses on the management and treatment of irregularities in the alignment of the teeth, jaws and face. These misalignments are treated using fixed or removable appliances like braces and aligners.
What qualifications does a Specialist Orthodontist have?
A Specialist Orthodontist has a five-year undergraduate degree in dentistry, followed by a three-year master’s degree in the specialist field of orthodontics.
What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?
In addition to the difference in qualifications, a dentist concentrates on maintaining the overall health of your teeth, whereas an orthodontist concentrates on correcting alignment issues in the teeth and jaws.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
No, orthodontic treatment doesn’t hurt. You may experience mild discomfort after fitting and adjustment appointments, but this should only last a few days and can be treated with over-the-counter pain relief if needed.
